After a holdout that spanned the entire 2018 NFL season, Le’Veon Bell’s wish to be a free agent has finally come true.
The Pittsburgh Steelers could have given their former star running back the franchise tag for the third-straight season but would have had to pay Bell $14.5 million.
They also could have hit Bell with the transition tag, which would have allowed them to match any team’s offer in free agency. Instead the Steelers opted to forgo both of those options and let Bell walk.
Bell is clearly thrilled to be done with the Steelers and is now able to negotiate with the other 31 teams in the NFL.
When on the field, Bell has been one of, if not the, best running back in the NFL. In his last season played, Bell rushed for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns.
Bell is also an elite receiver out of the backfield, having caught 85 passes for 655 yards in 2017.
Bell will be the top free agent running back available this offseason, with teams like the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets both being rumored to have significant interest in the Pro Bowler.
VIDEO: Rob Gronkowski Dented Super Bowl Trophy Using it as a Bat
Rob Gronkowski may not be playing football anymore, but he will forever be relevant in the news cycle.
Gronk’s most recent exploits revolve around the Lombardi Trophy and the unique way that Gronk used it to leave his mark.
After watching that video, you clearly see Gronk using the NFL’s most sacred trophy to drop a bunt.
Maybe Gronk has seen so many of those trophies playing for the Patriots that he doesn’t think they are that rare, but that is definitely not an intended use for the Lombardi Trophy.
Gronk is not just the only person that could have gotten away with this, but he is also the only person that would ever even consider attempting this.
While it is a shame that we no longer get to see him play football, I have a sneaking suspension that Gronk will continue his antics long after the end of his playing career.
Patriots Sign Wide Receiver Demaryius Thomas
Tom Brady’s offense just got a new weapon and it could be a major one.
The New England Patriots came to terms today with free agent wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
Thomas has been one of the best receivers in the NFL over the last decade, playing primarily with the Denver Broncos.
From 2012 through 2016, Thomas put together five-straight seasons of at least 90 catches and 1,000 yards receiving.
While Thomas has regressed some over the last two seasons, he’s still a very capable receiver with experience playing under Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Thomas is coming off a torn Achilles that ended his season last year, but if healthy he could be an impact player for New England.
Since Rob Gronkowski just retired, the Patriots were left without a big red-zone target. Now with they have one in Thomas.
Russell Wilson Becomes NFL’s Highest-Paid Player with $140 Million Extension
Russell Wilson gave the Seattle Seahawks until the end of the day yesterday to come to terms on new contract extension.
While the deal did not get completed until after midnight, the Seahawks were able to meet Wilson’s demands and secured their franchise quarterback into a new contract extension.
Wilson’s new deal is for four years and could be worth up to $140 million. Wilson confirmed the deal himself late last night.
Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and is coming off a career year in 2018. Wilson threw for a career-high 35 touchdown passes, while throwing just seven interceptions.
Wilson is beloved in Seattle, after delivering a Super Bowl victory earlier in his career and will now spend the next five years as a Seahawk.
