Le’Veon Bell is Finally a Free Agent

After a holdout that spanned the entire 2018 NFL season, Le’Veon Bell’s wish to be a free agent has finally come true.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could have given their former star running back the franchise tag for the third-straight season but would have had to pay Bell $14.5 million.

They also could have hit Bell with the transition tag, which would have allowed them to match any team’s offer in free agency. Instead the Steelers opted to forgo both of those options and let Bell walk.

Bell is clearly thrilled to be done with the Steelers and is now able to negotiate with the other 31 teams in the NFL.

When on the field, Bell has been one of, if not the, best running back in the NFL. In his last season played, Bell rushed for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns.

Bell is also an elite receiver out of the backfield, having caught 85 passes for 655 yards in 2017.

Bell will be the top free agent running back available this offseason, with teams like the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets both being rumored to have significant interest in the Pro Bowler.

Eagles Sign Carson Wentz to a Four-Year $128 Million Contract Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles no longer have a quarterback controversy, as Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles has moved on to play with the Jaguars.

The Eagles were never going to give Foles the starting job, as they have all the confidence in the world in their franchise quarterback Carson Wentz.

Now the Eagles have locked up their guy long-term, as they just signed Wentz to a four-year contract extension.

‘Wentz has been a great player throughout his first three years in the NFL, but he has struggled to stay on the field. When he is not injured, Wentz is absolutely worth this new contract.

The question is, can he learn how to avoid injury for a full season?

Especially as the Eagles no longer have the best backup quarterback in the NFL anymore.

We will have to wait and see how the next four years play out, before we can judge this contract for the Eagles. Still, they had to sign him to a new deal, as the face of their franchise.

The 14 year old teen was featured by Sports Illustrated as one of the six teens “who will rule the future in sports” died after he was shot at a party in Illinois on Saturday night, according to police.

Jaylon McKenzie was 14 and an eighth grade student at Central Junior High School in Belleville, Ill., not far from East St. Louis. A 15-year old girl was also critically injured in the shooting.

McKenzie told Sports Illustrated that his goal was to make it to the NFL and be a star for the Los Angeles Rams.

The shooting unfolded in Venice, Ill. around 11:40 p.m. Saturday night, Illinois State Police told Fox News.

Officers were responding to a report of a disturbance and shots fired at a large party. They said when they arrived they found McKenzie and the other teen were shot and needed medical attention. Police said officers immediately began life-saving measures before both victims were transported to nearby hospitals.

McKenzie was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.

Gunner told the St. Louis Post Dispatch that her son had been to his school’s eighth-grade dance earlier that night. She said he later went to another school’s post-prom party in Venice.

On Sunday, State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, posted a picture of McKenzie on her Facebook page and wrote, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. #JaylonMcKenzie”

McKenzie played running back, receiver and defensive back. According to Sports Illustrated, he drew national attention in August when he caught five passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns to help the East team to a victory at the NFL’s 8th Grade All-American Game in Ohio.

He’d drawn the attention of college football coaches at the age of 14, the Post-Dispatch reported. He also reportedly got his first verbal scholarship offer in December from the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois reached out to him about a week ago.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was reportedly involved in a car accident early Thursday morning, which sent him to the hospital.

Pierre-Paul should be okay though, as he was released from the hospital without any lasting injuries.

Pierre-Paul reportedly had a passenger in the car, but the accident was a single-car crash, with neither JPP or his passenger suffering major injuries.

Pierre-Paul was traded to the Bucs last season, after spending the first eight years of his career with the New York Giants.

In his first season in Tampa, JPP has 12.5 sacks, the most he had recorded in a single season since 2014.

The Buccaneers hope that he can return healthy next season and continue that elite production as a pass rusher.
