Atlanta Falcons Stun New Orleans Saint by Ending Their Six-Game Winning Streak

Published

They always say that when it comes to the NFL, don’t look at the records when playing against your division.

That has never been more of the case than with the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

The Saints were winners of six-straight games, with five of them coming with Drew Brees on the sidelines. On the other hand, the Falcons had lost their last six games with no end in sight.

Then everything changed when the two teams squared up and the Falcons somehow dominated the Saints start-to-finish.

The Falcons played with a great bend-not-break mentality on the defensive side of the ball, keeping Brees and the Saints out of the end zone.

Atlanta also dominated the line of scrimmage, finishing the game with six sacks and five tackles for a loss.

Still, it was an embarrassing defeat for the Saints, after they had looked like Super Bowl contenders through the first half of the season.

Since the Falcons had yet to start their divisional schedule until this week, they now feature the best record in NFC South play.

If Atlanta owns the NFC South in this final stretch of the season and the Saints fall apart, the Falcons still have an outside chance at winning the division.

However it is more likely that this one week is an aberration and the Saints will return to old form to win the NFC South outright.

Philip Rivers Throws Four Interceptions to the Chiefs in Monday Night Football Loss

We may be watching the beginning of the end of Philip Rivers’ Hall of Fame career, as it appears his skills are diminishing in his 16th season.

Rivers has always been a gunslinger, never afraid to take chances to make a big play to propel his team to a victory. Those gambles often lead to interceptions, but he is now throwing picks at an alarming rate.

Playing against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, Rivers threw four interceptions in a game where the Chargers only lost by one touchdown.

That last interception was clearly the worst, as Rivers had just completed a huge 50-yard pass to Mike Williams to get his team a chance to send the game into overtime..

In the end, Rivers just couldn’t get the job done and the Chargers now fall to 4-7 on the season.

Over the past two weeks, Rivers has thrown a whopping seven interceptions. He now has a pretty dismal touchdown-to-interception ratio, with 15 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions on the season.

This one game is really comparable to how Rivers’ entire career has gone, as he has failed to win close games time and again. He has also accumulated incredible career stats and tonight he did throw for 353 yards in the defeat.

Questions about Rivers future in the NFL are already starting to be asked, as he is in the final year of his contract and will turn 38 years old in December.

The more games the Chargers lose down the stretch, the better chance they decide to move on, especially since this is advertised to be a very quarterback-rich draft.

Bengals Lose to the Oakland Raiders and Remain Winless

The Cincinnati Bengals have yet to win a game this season and the way things are going, they may not win one.

Dating back to last year, the Bengals are on a 12-game losing streak after dropping Sunday’s contest against the Oakland Raiders. That marks the longest losing streak in franchise history.

Last season, the Bengals went 6-10 overall but really fell off in the second half of the season, losing seven of their last eight games.

They actually went into a Week 9 bye last year with a winning record but have done nothing but lose since that point.

Former head coach Marvin Lewis left the team after that season, as the franchise announced a mutual parting of ways from the coach that had led them for 16 years.

Now Zac Taylor is the man in charge and he just can’t seem to buy a win.

Cincinnati has lost by a touchdown or less in half of their games, just failing to pull any of those tightly-contested games out.

Today they had their chances to beat the Oakland Raiders, but their offense proved to be too inept to get the job done.

Last week, the Bengals announced the end of the Andy Dalton era when they turned to Ryan Finley to see what the rookie quarterback could do.

Finley has not shown much to be excited about, only completing 13 of his 31 passes today for 115 yards.

He is clearly just a bridge to get through the end of the season, when the Bengals will look to draft their franchise quarterback with what we can only assume is the No. 1 overall pick at this point.

Maybe next year when the Bengals have Joe Burrow or Tua Tagovailoa starting at quarterback they can get some wins, but for now, there appears to be nothing but losing in Cincinnati’s future.

Lamar Jackson Sets Another Franchise Record in Blowout Victory Over the Texans

If you watched Lamar Jackson playing college football at Louisville, it was a sensation that was must-watch television.

Jackson dazzled each and every week, putting together ridiculous highlight packages and gaudy numbers to boot. He won the Heisman trophy in 2016 and was finalist to win it again the following year before coming into the NFL.

Now Jackson is doing similar things for the Baltimore Ravens, but is doing it against the best athletes in the world. Jackson cruised to a blowout victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, beating them by a score of 41-7.

The Ravens are all of a sudden looking like Super Bowl contenders, with the most exciting player in the NFL at quarterback and a strong defense combining to make one great football team.

Over this past month, Jackson and the Ravens have earned impressive victories over the Seattle Seahawks, the New England Patriots and the Houston Texans. Those teams have a combined 22-7 record on the season.

Jackson continues to prove that he can be an elite passer, despite many people doubting if he was anything more than a great runner.

Against the Texans, Jackson went 17-for-24, with 222 yards and four passing touchdowns. In doing so, Jackson became the first Ravens quarterback to ever have multiple four-touchdown passing games in the same season.

Along with the passing, Jackson once again produced dazzling running plays that you will want to watch over and over again.

Jackson finished the game with 86 rushing yards on just nine carries and broke another record set by Michael Vick.

With each passing week, the MVP buzz just keeps getting louder for Jackson, as he is doing things we have never seen before in the NFL.

Jackson still has six more games to make his MVP case, before turning his attention to the most important thing, which is leading his team to a Super Bowl.

Regardless of if he wins the award, this season has been a resounding success for Lamar Jackson as he has proven once and for all that he can play the quarterback position and play it a very high level.
