Closer Craig Kimbrel Signs with the Chicago Cubs

After missing nearly half the season as he waited to be signed, Craig Kimbrel finally has a new home, as it was announced that he has been signed by the Cubs.

Throughout his nine-year career, Kimbrel has been one of the best closers in baseball. Kimbrel has 333 career saves and a 1.91 ERA. He has led the league in saves four times and is coming off a World Series win with the Red Sox last season.

He will immediately boost the Cubs bullpen for this year’s playoff push, as Chicago sits in first place in the NL Central.

Kimbrel will be in Chicago past this season though, as he signed a three-year deal with $43 million.

It is unfortunate that Kimbrel had to wait so long to be signed, but at least we finally get to see the All-Star closer back on the mound again.

David “Big Papi” Ortiz is an icon in the baseball world, that has really transcended the game in so many way. That is why last night it was so stunning to learn that he had been shot in his native country of the Dominican Republic.

Fortunately all reports indicate that Ortiz will make a full recovery from his injuries, but the baseball community has galvanized around one of their most iconic players with an outpouring of love and support.

Ortiz is a hero in Boston for delivering three World Series championships across his 16 years spent with the club. Those championships included two World Series MVPs for Big Papi, as he was one of the most clutch performers in the history of the postseason.

Because of his playing career and his larger than life personality, Ortiz is a hero in his home country of Dominican Republic.

When he was shot at a local bar last night, the assailant could not get away as locals immediately fought back against him to defend their hero.

After the crowd beat up the shooter, they turned him over to the authorities. It is unclear what the motive to attack Ortiz was and police cannot continue their investigation until the suspect recovers from his injuries.

Ortiz is one his way back to the United States, as the Red Sox sent him a plane to return to Boston for further treatment.

Everyone is praying for a full recovery and many more years with Big Papi around the game.

Free Agent Kyrie Irving ‘Serious’ About Signing with the Nets

The Kyrie Irving free agency sweepstakes are almost in full swing, as the All-Star point guard hits the open market for the first time.

While Irving has been relatively successful playing for the Boston Celtics, it seems more likely than not that Irving will be wearing a new jersey next year.

It has long been rumored that the New York native would want to return home and play in Madison Square Garden for the Knicks. But reports now indicate that Irving may be setting up shop in the Barclays Center instead.

While New York is always considered a Knicks town, last year the Nets were absolutely the cities best team.

Brooklyn went 42-40, clinching the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. They then beat the Philadelphia 76ers on the road in Game 1 of the playoffs, before eventually losing the series in five games.

The Nets are clearly going all-in on this opportunity to add an NBA champion, as they made a big trade yesterday to clear cap space.

By trading Allen Crabbe’s $18.5 million contract to the Hawks, Brooklyn now has the cap space to sign two max free agents.

If they can somehow convince Irving and another max free agent to sign, then Brooklyn would become a powerhouse in the East.

With the advent of social media, the ceremonial first pitch has become one of the most pressure-packed feats in all of sports.

These moments are primed for embarrassment, as the everyday person or celebrity can learn really quick that throwing a baseball is a lot harder than it looks.

Yesterday marked the five-year anniversary of one of the worst first pitches of all-time, when 50 Cent received the honor at a Mets game.

Well 50 has some company now, as a woman at White Sox game tried to take his mantle for the worst first pitch ever.

The best part of that video has to be the fact that she poses for the camera mere seconds before drilling that same cameraman.

It is truly amazing how we continue to push the boundary of what is bad pitch.

I would say that it won’t get any worse than this one, but you just never know when someone is going do something even more jaw-dropping when throwing out the first pitch.
