Enes Kanter Already Becoming a Fan-Favorite in Boston After Taking Shot at Kyrie

The Boston Celtics announced their newest two members in a press conference today, as Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter were introduced to the media.

Walker may be the headliner, but Kanter is the type of player that offers the media great headlines, as he has always spoken his mind and is a great quote.

Well, Kanter got the whole room laughing at the press conference when he was asked why he chose to wear the No. 11.

When Kanter says that, “He wants to be the last guy to wear it,” he is referring to a quote from Kyrie Irving when he was introduced to the media a few short years ago.

At the time, Irving was still loyal to Boston and was at least articulating the notion that he would be so good that his number would one day be hanging in the rafters.

Now Kanter is wearing the No. 11 for the Celtics, while Irving is hoping to get his number up in the rafters of the Barclays Center for the Brooklyn Nets.

With Kanter’s sense of humor and hard-nosed intensity on the floor, is is sure to become a fan-favorite in Boston. If he isn’t one already.

Dwight Howard Signs with the Los Angeles Lakers

The reunion that no one could have seen coming five years ago is finally complete, as the Los Angeles Lakers have signed Dwight Howard.

Howard spent the 2012-13 season with the Lakers, after being traded there from the Orlando Magic a year before becoming a free agent. The experiment of combining Howard with Kobe Bryant did not work and Howard ended up leaving L.A. in free agency to sign with the Houston Rockets.

Now Howard will try to re-write his Lakers narrative by coming over to play with superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Howard returning to Los Angeles does come with a risk, as he had to agree to buyout from his current team, the Memphis Grizzlies to facilitate the move.

Howard gave up nearly half of his guaranteed salary to become a free agent, but he hopes that by making the Lakers roster he can recoup that lost money.

While this seems like a great fit for both sides, as L.A. lost a lot of their depth at center with the injury to DeMarcus Cousins, the Lakers have sent a message with their intent to sign Howard to a non-guaranteed contract.

Howard will have to prove that he is willing to accept and thrive in a role that he has just never been that comfortable in.

The Lakers are not going to center their offense around Howard, but if he can play good defense and be a force on the boards, Howard can still make a great impact on their championship aspirations.

Ty Lue to Join the Clippers Staff as an Assistant Coach

Published

A few months ago, no one would be surprised to learn that Ty Lue would be coaching in L.A. this season.

They just thought it would be as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Instead, Lue is going to be coaching the Los Angeles Clippers as the top assistant on Doc Rivers staff.

This isn’t the first time that Lue has coached under Rivers, as he was part of his staff with the Boston Celtics from 2011-2013. Then when Rivers was traded to coach the Clippers, Lue followed him to L.A. and coached under him for another season.

Lue would leave Rivers staff to become the associate head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers and would eventually become their head coach.

Lue won a championship in his first season as the head coach, after taking over the position from David Blatt mid-season in 2016. Lue was praised for his work getting the best out of LeBron James, which is why he seemed like an ideal fit for the Lakers.

The Lakers were ultimately too cheap with their offer for Lue, which insulted him and forced him to turn down the job.

Instead they hired Frank Vogel to be the head coach, leaving Lue free to be picked up by Rivers and the Clippers.

There is no way of knowing for sure the impact that Lue will have on the Clippers this season, but it can’t hurt to have a former championship-winning coach on the staff.
