Jimmy Garappolo Plays Best Game Yet to Avoid Cardinals Upset on TNF

The Arizona Cardinals gave the San Francisco 49ers all they could handle on Thursday Night Football, nearly handed them their first loss of the season.

Kenyan Drake was the story for most of night, as the Cardinals new running back had an outstanding debut.

Drake was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Cardinals on Monday, only having a few days to prepare for this game. Those days were enough, as Drake rushed for a season-high 110 yards.

Drake also caught four passes for 52 yards, including another catch to convert a two-point conversion for the Cardinals. That two-point conversion made the score 28-25.

While Drake played great, his performance was not enough, as San Francisco held off Arizona’s comeback bid and proved why they serious contenders in the NFC.

For most of the season it has been the defense and running game that has carried the Niners, but that was not the case on Thursday night. Jimmy Garappolo had his best performance yet, throwing a career-high four TDs.

Garappolo finished the game with a stellar 136.9 quarterback rating, executing his offense with great success.

The big reason for Garappolo’s outstanding game was the addition of Emmanuel Sanders to the offense, as Jimmy G finally started clicking with his new wide receiver.

It was the second game Sanders has played with San Francisco, after being traded from Denver two weeks ago. He now clearly has an understanding of the offense, as he put together a dominant performance.

Sanders led the 49ers with seven catches and 112 yards. He also scored his second touchdown in as many weeks, already matching his touchdown production through the first seven weeks of the season with the Broncos.

While you can nitpick at Garappolo’s stats compared to the other elite quarterbacks in the NFL, there is one stat were he is excelling more than the rest.

It just happens to be the most important stat…

Including the perfect 2-0 record Garappolo brought to San Francisco from his time with the Patriots, the 27-year-old quarterback is now 16-2 in his career.

Garappolo will face a tough task next week, as the 49ers will play the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

Luckily they have 10 full days off to prepare for that game against, as they try to stay undefeated and atop the NFC West.

Lamar Jackson Breaks Michael Vick’s Record for Most Rushing Yards in a Season

Lamar Jackson went into Thursday’s game against the New York Jets with history on his mind, as he was primed to break Michael Vick’s record for most rushing yards in a season for a quarterback.

Jackson joined Vick as the only quarterbacks to ever rush for 1,000 yards in a season, when he gained 40 yards against the Bills last week to reach 1,017 rushing yards on the season.

That put Jackson just 32 yards away from breaking Vick’s record, which he obliterated with 86 yards rushing against the Jets.

Jackson now has 1,103 rushing yards on the season and is well on the way to winning the league MVP.

Along with his work on the ground, Jackson dominated the Jets through the air, completed 15 of his 23 passes for 212 yards and five touchdowns.

The Ravens cruised to a 42-21 victory over the Jets, moving to 12-2 on the season. In doing so, Baltimore has clinched the AFC North for the second-straight year under Jackson’s leadership.

While clinching the division is a big deal, all eyes were on Jackson during and after this game, as no one thought Michael Vick’s record would ever be touched.

The reason being that Vick was a once and a generation type talent, but all of a sudden there is another one in Lamar Jackson.

Jackson now has two more games to pad his MVP stats before getting ready to lead his team into the playoffs.

Coming of 10-straight wins the Ravens are considered the favorites to make it out of the AFC, although the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs both present difficult matchups.

Everything should be in place for Baltimore, as one more win clinches a playoff bye and home field throughout the playoffs.

The only way they don’t get a playoff bye at this point though is for the Chiefs and Patriots to win out and the Ravens to lose their last two games.

Considering the way the Ravens have been playing though, it is hard to see anyone betting against them in any game doing down the stretch.

Saints Lose Key Pass Rusher as Marcus Davenport to Season-Ending Foot Injury

The New Orleans Saints suffered a devastating loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

While losing the game was a tough pill to swallow, the worse one may have been the player they lost, as Marcus Davenport came away with a season-ending injury.

Davenport is a key player in the Saints defensive front, as the second-year player was in the midst of a great season.

New Orleans traded up 13 picks in the 2018 NFL Draft to select Davenport with the 14th overall pick. In his rookie season, Davenport had 4.5 sacks, 12 QB hits and 22 tackles.

This year, Davenport improved upon those numbers with six sacks, 16 QB hits and 31 tackles through 13 games.

New Orleans has already clinched their division title, but they have plenty left to play for this regular season.

Currently sitting at 10-3, the Saints are tied with Green Bay Packers and are a game behind the 49ers for a first round playoff bye in the NFC.

The Saints are certainly going to miss Davenport’s services over the last three weeks of the season and in the playoffs, as they hope to make another Super Bowl run.

Mike Evans Likely Shut Down for the Season with Hamstring Injury

If your a fantasy football player that has Mike Evans on your team, this is going to be some very unfortunate news.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar receiver was in the midst of another incredible season, but now it appears that year has come to close as he is getting shut down due to a hamstring injury.

Evans granted his fantasy football owners one final gift on the way out, as he injured the hamstring on his seventh touchdown of the season that went for 40 or more yards.

Evan trails only Mike Williams for receivers who have more 40+ yard touchdowns, as he has been a home run threat all year for Tampa.

Through 13 games, Evans had 67 catches for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. His 89 yards per game average was the second-highest mark of his career, trailing only the 95.3 mark he put up last season.

If this is the end of Evans’ season, it will be the first time in his career that he won’t play at least 15 games.

Even though he did not play 15 games, Evans prolonged his streak of 1,000-yard seasons, as the 26-year-old has eclipsed that mark in each of his first six seasons.

While this is devastating news if Evans is on your fantasy team, the Buccaneers are all but eliminated from the playoffs so Evans can now get a jump start on his offseason.
