MAGIC JOHNSON STEPS DOWN FROM PRESIDENT OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS

Just before the Lakers season finale against the Portland Trailblazers, Ervin “Magic” Johnson steps down from his role as the President of Basketball Operations. The Lakers had an underwhelming first season with Lebron James in Los Angeles. Although not many expected the Lakers to make it to the Finals this year, most still expected to make a run at the playoffs.

Fingers have been pointed all season on who to blame for the Lakers struggles. Whether they had the wrong coach or the wrong mix of veterans with their young core teamed up around Lebron. Some people were blaming their player development issues while others were accusing James of focusing too much on his Hollywood career rather than his team.

In an impromptu press conference moments after the news broke, Magic said, “I had more fun when I was able to be the big brother and Ambassador to everybody. I thought about Dwayne Wade retiring tomorrow, and I can’t even tweet it out or can’t be there.”

Many expected Luke Walton to be let go from his Head Coaching position sometime in the near future, but I don’t think anyone expected this news to break. A story came out earlier today about how Coach Walton and Magic haven’t spoken in weeks, which is never good for a head coach and the team president.

What does this mean for the future of the Lakers? Maybe Magic didn’t expect any top free agents to join the Lakers this summer to pursue a championship run with Lebron James. Who do you think Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss will find to replace Magic Johnson to hopefully get the organization headed in the right direction?

Philadelphia 76ers Come Away with Victory Contentious Game 4

So far in the NBA Playoffs, there has not been any series more compelling then the one between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers.

The two teams have been going at each other both on and off the court and their games have been coming down to the wire more times than not.

While it has been a tough-fought series, it has ultimately gone the Sixers way, as they are now up 3-1 after another close victory today.

This game really did go back and forth, with each team holding a lead within the last minute of the contest.

In the end, it was Mike Scott that became the hero for the Sixers, after making the game-winning three with his team down by a point late.

While Scott made the biggest play of the night, it was Joel Embiid that carried the Sixers throughout the game. He ended up finishing with a team-leading 31 points and 16 rebounds.

With Embiid playing at such a high level, the Sixers look to be legitimate title-contenders coming out of the Eastern Conference.

The Detroit Pistons were finally at full strength for the first time all playoffs, as they got their All-Star back for Game 3 today.

Despite the return of Blake Griffin, the Pistons continued to look helpless against the Milwaukee Bucks, as they dropped their third-straight game to the No. 1 seed.

Now the Bucks are in complete control of this series and will look to close it out on Monday, when they play Game 4 in Detroit.

Considering the fact that the Bucks have won the first three games of this series by a whooping 72 points, it is hard to give the Pistons any chance to get back in this series.

Nuggets Even Series with the Spurs

Despite being the underdog coming in, the San Antonio Spurs have looked to be in command of their series with the No. 2 seed Denver Nuggets.

Then Game 4 happened, in which the Nuggets finally showed the promise that made them one of the best teams in the NBA this year.

The Nuggets were able to win in today’s game in large part due to the play of their best player, All-Star Nikola Jokic.

Jokic led the Nuggets in scoring with his 29 points and was just two assists away from a triple-double. Along with Jokic, Denver got 24 points from their star guard Jamal Murray.

Some people may have been surprised by the Nuggets winning Game 4 on the road, but Charles Barkley was not among them, as he guaranteed a Denver victory prior to the game.

We will see if Barkley remains that confident in the Nuggets for the remainder of the series, as this has now become a best-of-three series.
