There are some coaches in College Football that just become synonymous with their program. Nick Saban is that for Alabama and Dabo Swinney is that for Clemson.

Once upon a time, the same could be said for Greg Schiano and Rutgers, as he led the Scarlet Knights for a decade from 2001 through 2011.

Now after a stint in the NFL and as a coach for Ohio State, Schiano has returned to where he made a name for himself, as he has been hired to once again become Rutgers’ head coach.

Schiano originally took over Rutgers back in 2001 and had to completely rebuild the program from scratch. Schiano went 3-20 across his first two seasons and did not have a winning season until 2005.

After losing the Insight Bowl in 2005, Schiano led Rutgers to an incredible season the following year, as the Scarlet Knights finished with an 11-2 record. He won countless coach of the year awards, including the Big East Coach of the Year.

Schiano led Rutgers to their first ever bowl game win in 2006, as Rutgers won the Texas Bowl. Rutgers went on to win five bowl games in six years under Schiano.

Now Schiano returns to Rutgers and gets a heft payday in the process.

Since he last represented the Scarlet Knights, Greg Schiano got the opportunity to coach in the NFL, spending two years as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After being fired by the Buccaneers in 2013, Schiano took a hiatus away from coaching at the collegiate or pro level. He then returned and became Ohio State’s defensive coordinator in 2016.

Now Schiano returns to where it all started, as he tries to resurrect his career as well as the program he once built.

The Alabama Crimson Tide came into this weekend right on the periphery of the College Football Playoff.

They were ranked as the No. 5 team in the nation, with their only loss coming to No. 2 LSU. But their biggest game of the season was set for Saturday, as Alabama squared off against the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl.

This year, the Tigers got the better of their state rival, winning a shootout by three points.

Playing without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama scored 31 points against Auburn in the first half. Still, backup Mac Jones made a few costly mistakes.

Jones completed 26 of his 39 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns. But he also threw one pick-six in each half, giving Auburn enough of an edge to pull off the upset.

It was a historic victory for the Tigers, as Alabama never loses a game when they score that many points. Yet Auburn truly owns the Iron Bowl rivalry when they play the game at home.

While Auburn has no hopes at sneaking into the College Football Playoff with three losses on their resume, they will take great joy in eliminating Alabama from contention as well.

Since the adoption of the College Football Playoff for the 2014-15 season, Alabama has finished as one of the four teams every time. Their five appearances are the most for any program, as are their six playoff wins.

Now for the first time, Nick Saban will be on the outside looking in, as Alabama has no chance for the College Football Playoff committee to let them into the dance this year.

Joe Burrow’s season is far from over, as the LSU Tigers still have an SEC Championship to win and are squarely in the mix for the College Football Playoff.

What did end on Saturday was Burrow’s regular season, as his career playing in Baton Rouge came to a close against Texas A&M.

Prior to the game, Burrow chose to honor his time with the Tigers by changing his name to be more fit for Louisiana.

Burrow, or Burreaux, had another spectacular game for LSU, completing 23 of his 32 passes for 352 passing yards and three touchdowns.

LSU was able to cruise to a 50-7 victory over Texas A&M, moving to a perfect 12-0 record on the season. Burrow broke plenty of records in the process as he has truly has become the runaway favorite to win the Heisman.

With his 352 passing yards, Burrow broke Tim Couch’s record for most single-season passing yards in SEC history. Couch has 4,275 yards back in 1998 and Burrow finished his season with 4,366 yards.

Burrow also tied the SEC record for the most touchdown passes thrown in a season, finishing the year with 44 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions thrown.

With those gaudy stats, along with the great success of LSU as a team, it appears that Burrow is a lock to win the Heisman Trophy at this point.

It has been a remarkable season for Burrow and the Tigers, but the most important games are still to come as they try to win a championship.
