Under anyone’s standards, Russell Westbrook is an outstanding NBA player. As an eight-time NBA All-Star, he has been named NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player in two of those consecutive showings — in both 2015 and 2016. And the following year in 2017, Westbrook was named NBA Most Valuable Player for the 2016 – 2017 season.
With all of these accolades, Westbrook continues to make his presence known in the NBA. His records are too numerous to discuss here, but you can see them at ESPN.
So, how is Russell Westbrook equal to Wilt Chamberlain? Let us count the ways.
1. On February 9, 2019, Westbrook scored 21 points, had 11 assists and added to that sum 12 rebounds. With these numbers, he was able to take his stat game to the next level and rise as an equal to Chamberlain, at least in the way of nine straight triple-doubles.
2. Two days later on February 11, Westbrook broke Chamberlain’s record and became the new king of consecutive triple-doubles with 10. He then took the record to 11 in a game on February 14 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
3. Then on April 2, just a few days ago, Westbrook became only the second player next to Chamberlain in 1968 to achieve 20 (or more) points, 20 (or more) rebounds and 20 (or more) assists in a single game. When Chamberlain accomplished his feat, he recorded 22 points, 25 rebounds, and 21 assists all in a game in the year 1968. Westbrook’s stats compare with 20 points, 20 rebounds and 21 assists.
4. In addition, Westbrook matched with Chamberlain for a slightly different stat. This one was for exactly 15 across the board — 15 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists all in the same game. They both come in as second on the list, tying with eight in their careers, only behind Oscar Robertson who had 14 total in his.
James Harden Drop 32-Point Triple-Double in Game 2 Victory Over the Jazz
The Houston Rockets jumped out to an early 20-point lead in the first quarter of tonight’s game, which was enough to bury the Utah Jazz.
Houston scored 39 points in the quarter, as they utterly dominated the Jazz.
James Harden was cooking early on in the game, finishing the first half with numbers that would have been great had they been for the whole game.
Harden ended up finishing the game with a triple-double, as the Rockets cruised to a 20-point victory.
The Rockets are now just two wins away from the Western Conference Semifinals, where they will likely face the Golden State Warriors.
Bucks Beat Pistons Again to Go Up 2-0 in Series
The Milwaukee Bucks just keep on rolling in the playoffs, as Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team to another victory tonight.
Along with the great play from the Greek Freak, the Bucks also got some quality production from Pat Connaughton off the bench.
While the Detroit Pistons lost their second game of the series against the Bucks, at least they made this one a little respectable.
Sure they ultimately lost by 21 points, but it was a much better defeat than the 35-point loss they suffered in Game 1.
The way this series looks to be heading, the Bucks likely won’t have to return home to close it out as they play their next two games in Detroit.
Kyrie Irving Scores 37 to Hold Off Pacers to Win Game 2
The Boston Celtics came real close to losing their home-court advantage tonight, as the Indiana Pacers put up a valiant effort.
Through three quarters, the Pacers were up 79-68 and looked to be in control of the game. Then came the fourth quarter.
Boston outscored the Pacers by 19 points in the game’s final frame, allowing the Celtics to come away with their second victory of the series.
Jayson Tatum and Kyrie Irving led the charge for the Celtics in the fourth quarter, combining to score 19 of the Celtics 31 points.
While it was Tatum helping Irving in the fourth, for a majority of the game it was Irving that was carrying the Celtics offensively.
As a crazy as it might sound with players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard in the conference, there is no Eastern Conference player that I would rather have in the playoffs than Kyrie.
Irving is the best pure scorer that the East has to offer, which gives the Celtics a great chance to make a deep playoff run.
